Convert an Excel bank file to QBO
Some banks only offer Excel downloads, and accountants often receive transactions in a spreadsheet. Ledgermere reads .xlsx files directly – dates stored as Excel dates and amounts stored as numbers are taken as they are, so nothing is misread by locale settings.
Steps
- Open the .xlsx in Ledgermere. If the workbook has several sheets, pick the one with the transactions under Columns / options.
- Check the heading row and the role of each column (Date, Description, Amount or Debit/Credit, Balance).
- Choose QBO (QuickBooks), QFX (Quicken) or OFX and download.
Typing transactions by hand
You can also prepare your own sheet with the columns Date, Description and Amount (negative for money out) and convert it the same way.
Not supported
Old .xls files (Excel 97–2003) and password-protected workbooks – save them as .xlsx or CSV first.
Questions and answers
Can I convert to IIF instead?
Yes – choose IIF for QuickBooks Desktop. See Excel and CSV to IIF.
Does it keep the balance column?
The balance is used to check the transactions and is included in CSV and Excel exports; QBO/QFX/OFX carry the closing balance.
